Split Black

A 2.5D cyberpunk ninja sidescroller about speed, patience, and what you choose along the way.

The premise

You play Black, a ninja who does not speak. The clone who follows him around does, loudly and mostly to people who wish he would stop. Something is wrong inside Black's head, and the game shows it in how the city reads to you rather than telling you in a cutscene.

Split Black is a directed four-to-twelve-hour run through a neon city, built around three ways to play that hand off to each other as the story moves.

  • Runner

Pure speed. Long momentum runs where the level keeps coming and slowing down is the only way to lose.

  • Platformer

Tight rooms with a route through them. Read the layout, plan the line, execute it in one breath.

  • Story

Walk. Talk to people. Touch things you should not. Your choices bend where the road goes next.

Combat runs on momentum.

Everything in the combat feeds on speed. Move fast and the game gives you more: harder hits, longer reach, more time. Stop, and it takes it back.

  • Speed is a resource

Your momentum meter fills as you run and drains when you stop. Attacks draw on it, so the fastest route through a room is also the deadliest.

  • Three hits, no pause

A three-hit combo that blends into your run. The upper body swings while the legs keep moving, so you never trade speed for damage.

  • Throw, then follow

Throw a shuriken and teleport to where it lands. Cross gaps, skip guards, keep the meter alive.

  • Focus

Slow the world to line up a throw. Colour drains and smoke closes in at the edges while you aim.
