We are Alltale, three siblings in Brisbane making games. This is the first post on a devlog we decided to start before announcing anything, because the part of game development we most wanted to see when we were starting out was the middle: the systems that half work, the decisions that got reversed, the week that went nowhere.
So that is what this is.
What we are making
Our first game is Split Black, a 2.5D cyberpunk ninja sidescroller built in Unreal Engine 5. It has been in development since early 2025. The short version: it is a game about momentum, where moving fast is both how you fight and how you stay alive. The longer version is on its page, and most of the posts here will be about it.
There is a second project. It is not ready to be talked about, and the games page has a locked card where it will eventually go.
One world
Every game we make is set in the same fictional universe. That is not a marketing line; it is a story one of us has been writing for a very long time, and the games are the way we have chosen to tell it. Characters, places and history will carry across projects. You do not need to know any of that to play Split Black, but if you follow along, you will start to see the seams.
What to expect here
- A post every few weeks, sometimes about a single system, sometimes about the studio.
- Real numbers and real problems. If a feature got cut, we will say why.
- No release dates until we have one we believe.
You can follow along by RSS or by signing up for the occasional email on the home page. We will only send one when something is worth opening.
Thanks for reading the first one.
